Adventurerous Gear


Although these tables were written with for Knave, they are pretty much OSR compatible. Well, probably compatible with your preferred rules system too. It's not that deep. I just really love the idea of character specialization being done through their equipment and limited inventory space as opposed to special abilities gained upon levelling. I haven't played many role playing games that adopt that kind of advancement, but the one's I have (like Knave) have been particularly fun.

Magic Implements (one use per day)
1. Crystal Ball. Scry on someone you know or somewhere you’ve been. 
2. Pointed Hat of Stars. On command, glows brightly out to 60’ for up to 1 hour.
3. Colorful Robe. Name a mundane item that can fit in your hand and make an Intelligence Save. On a success, you pull the item out. 
4. Dueling Wand. Target drops whatever is in their hand.
5. Broom. 2 slots. Command to fly your Movement speed for up to 1 hour.
6. Ghostsilk Cape. Become ethereal and walk through up to 10 feet of continuous solid material. 

Books
1. A Field-Guide to Physical Culture. Once a day, you can add your Wisdom bonus, in addition to your Strength bonus on Strength saves. 
2. Jhoon Yee’s Fighting Method. Deal damage equal to your Strength or Dexterity bonus on successful combat stunts. 
3. Complete Bestiary, Abridged. Learn specific details of one type of monster. For 1 day, you can add your Intelligence bonus to your attacks against that type of monster. Limit one type per day. 
4.     Journeybook. Comes in pairs, whatever is written in one, is magically transcribed in the other. 
5. Tome of Wondrous Power. 2 slots. Holds 1d6 random spells (min. 2).
6. Tome of the Profane. Flesh-bound spellbook that holds a random spell and fidgets excitedly in the presence of evil creatures.

Lichdom - A Reflective Ascent to Power

 I recently sat down and resolved to start tackling the mountain of rulebooks and rpgs that seemed to be growing by the week before me. That, paired with a sort of terse relationship with video games at the moment, lead me to tackle some of the solo roleplaying games that I had begun to subconsciously collect. I had played one or two before, most notably the famous and award-winning Thousand Year Old Vampire , which was a surreal experience at the least (and a profoundly introspective jaunt at its best).  Source: Dungeon Crawl Classics (seriously great game, check it out too) This week I decided to try one of the newer ones I had picked up: Lichdom (buy it here) . Thanking the past version of me that had the foresight (or the money burning a hole in my digital wallet) for backing the Kickstarter that came with the hardcover and a custom deck of themed playing cards, I cracked open the cards, uncapped a new pen, and creased the spine of a brand new journal to start playing....
